Some

By Kevin Alan Lamb

By Kevin Alan Lamb

Joy cannot be bought and sold, but it can be inspired

Goodness isn’t assured reciprocity, but it is admired

It is felt in the veins, and once experienced it cannot be ignored

Not all are blessed to visit islands and celebrate upon the shore

But happiness starts within and the choice to spread joy will combat sin

Do not let anyone sell you a smile

Asses your life if it has been absent a while

Do you spend your time with the ones you love?

Do you participate in your passion?

Is joy a commodity you tell yourself you must ration?

Is hope a fleeting notion from which you are losing traction?

Is doubt your tendency and not the occasional reaction?

Have no fear, you are not alone in this

Some would insist everyone’s happiness, even with but one wish

It may not feel like it but there are so many days to come

It may not feel like it but there’s nowhere to run

It may not feel like it but with choice the first day of your life has begun

In a world where no one seems to care, I assure you there are some

In a world where it has been long absent, we can forget the way our heart once beat like a drum

I understand desperation, but the sun cannot illuminate our souls while we’re comfortably numb

I understand desperation, but darkness often lingers at the bottom of a bottle of rum

It may feel like no one loves you, but I assure you there are some

It may feel like no one is willing to help you, but I assure you there is at least one.
